POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 'vulnerable' elderly woman was targeted by distraction burglars in Eastham.

At around 12.30pm on Tuesday, September 18 a woman in her late 80s was at home when a man knocked at the door claiming to be from the housing association.

The man entered the house and spoke to the woman.

While they spoke, two other men entered the home, went upstairs and searched the victim's bedroom.

The men tipped out her drawers and stole a stash of cash before leaving the property.

Officers are now appealing to the public to help find those responsible for the 'cunning attack.'

Detective inspector Paul Parry said: “This is an extremely cunning attack on a vulnerable, elderly woman.

“How anyone can think this is morally acceptable is beyond me and I am directly appealing to the public for help to catch those responsible.

“The man that spoke to the woman is described as white, in his 40s, of large build with black hair pulled back into a pony tail - did you see someone in the area matching this description?

"Have you also been approached by a man claiming to be from the housing association or a different company but didn’t trust him?"
