TOM Houghton's article on Wirral's "motorway divide" made interesting reading, but I couldn't quite work out whether it was a positive or negative view of Wirral.

Generally, but not exclusively, it is correct the west benefits from a higher level of living standard, but what the article didn't provide was a possible reason for this.

Years of council disinterest in Birkenhead, with vague promises and numerous beautifully-drawn artist impressions of the town centre, don't actually provide the good folk of that area with any real benefit.

The council's attitude to the New Ferry explosion proved, beyond doubt, that despite having the budget it chose to make a political point rather than help those in dire need.

It took the Conservatives to identify a council fund specifically set up for such emergencies.

Perhaps the real problem with the west coast of Wirral is they keep voting Labour whose sole purpose is to criticise the Government while never really helping those who voted for them.

They've had a Labour MP since 1979 and nothing’s improved much.

The old saying "if you always do what you've always done you'll always get what you've always had" seems appropriate.
