WIRRAL'S state-of-the-art youth hub is looking to recruit more volunteers to help run its day-to-day schedule of activities.

The Hive Youth Zone, based on Bright Street, Birkenhead is hosting a 'V for Volunteer' drop-in event on September 18 for anyone considering a volunteering role.

Hundreds of Wirral residents already give their time to The Hive but the hub is in need of more people who can ensure the facility enhances its offering and reaches out to more youngsters.

Chief executive Stuart Barnes said: “We’re looking for people who want to help change young people’s lives, and in doing so there will also be the opportunity to boost career prospects by strengthening CVs, supporting skills development and providing valuable experience.

"Our volunteers, for example, can take advantage of a range of free, accredited training courses while they are with us, gaining qualifications in areas including mental health awareness, mentoring, team leadership and nutrition.

“Giving up your time for others also has well-being implications, helping to reduce stress and increase confidence.

"At the same time, it offers people the chance to indulge their passions – in sports or the arts for instance, make new friends and have fun.

"With summer at an end and lots of us seeking a renewed sense of purpose and motivation, now is the perfect time to get involved with volunteering.

“Our volunteers have a huge range of life experience, from coaching kick boxing in South America to raising a family at home.

"Some come in for just two hours a week but every minute they give is invaluable and our young people benefit from interaction with them all.

"We couldn’t provide our first-class youth provision without them.

"As well as opportunities to engage with our members, we are also looking for people who can offer support in other areas such as admin, driving, cooking and more.”

Volunteers at The Hive have benefits such as meal vouchers, use of the fully-equipped gym and a free uniform.

Anyone aged over 18 and interested in finding out more about volunteering at The Hive is invited to attend the informal drop-in session at the Birkenhead-based Youth Zone on September 18 between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.
