A GROUP of lucky Wirral kids will get almost an entire WEEK of extra summer holiday than those at other local schools after "major" building works over-ran.

It has been announced on its website that pupils attending Mosslands School in Wallasey Village will not return until Monday, September 10.

An email and text sent to parents and widely circulated on social media on Thursday said "major structural refurbishment works over the summer" were running "slightly behind schedule".

The new date has been decided "due to health and safety concerns", the email added.

The school's website also said the original date for pupils to return to school had been Thursday, September 6, due to the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week being INSET days.

The school, which was contacted for further comment, provides education for around 900 boys aged 11 to 19 with a mixed Sixth Form.

On the school's website, it advises year seven to attend school at 8.40am on September 10, with all other pupils asked to come in from 11am.

Other institutions across the borough, including Woodchurch High School, Hilbre High School and South Wirral High School, are due back in on September 4.
