BUSINESS resumed this week for the Chester & Wirral Football League with a new look format to the divisions.

With the Vets teams still on a break until September, it was a chance for the open age teams to take centre stage.

On Wednesday night in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division last seasons Champions, Sutton Athletic, got off to a winning start with a 3-1 win over Blacon Youth Reserves.

Connor Doyle lead the scoring with a brace with Paul Butler adding the third.

Sam Davies replied for Blacon. Joe O'Brien and Luke Edwards were the scorers for St Saviours in their 2-0 win over Helsby.

Elsewhere Newton Athletic also enjoyed a 2-0 scoreline as they beat Ellesmere Port 2-0 with goals from Dan Christianson and Ben Woodman.

Christleton had Tom George (2), Jim Lehman and Luke Williamson to thank for their goals as they beat Cestrian Alex, Adam Crimes (2), 4-2.

In the night's other game Higher Bebington Kelma, Ben Keirman and Andy Blakeborough, and Shaftesbury Youth (Eddie Jebb and Lee Griffiths) drew 2-2.

Saturday action now in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division and Upton JFC got their campaign off to a winning start with a 5-2 win over Helsby with goals from Luke Williams (2), Ben Kelly, Matthew Craig and Danny Evans. Kieran Butterworth replied with a brace for Helsby.

Liam Wall (2), Mason Cartwright (2) and Joe O'Brien were the St Saviours scorers in their 5-1 win over Cestrian Alex.

Joe Keenan hit Ellesmere Port's first goal of the season, but it was not enough as they went down 2-1 to Christleton; Kev Garland and Chris Larsen were their scorers.

Connor Doyle hit another brace for Sutton Athletic as they beat Higher Bebington Kelma 3-2.

Callum Doyle added the third for Sutton with Mark Lawler and Steve Dawson netting for Kelma.

A strong second half performance from Shaftesbury Youth saw them come away 3-2 winners over Newton Athletic.

Danny Eaton had netted twice for Newton in the first half, but goals from Tom Hodson, Danny Whitehead and James Osbyrne meant all the points returned up the M53 with the visitors.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship Christleton Argyle were the day's big scorers, beating AFC Park North 7-1 with strikes from Cam Black (3), Zacc Caveney (2) and James Pembo (2).

Liam Elliot hit the Park goal. New comers Groves Athletic got off to a flyer with a 6-1 win at Hoole Rangers with goals from Joe Fitzpatrick (2), Neil Stephens (2), Andy Jones and an own goal. Alex Hutchinson netted for Hoole.

Paul Seddon (3), Phil Goss and Dean Rattcliffe were all on the mark for Crossway who beat Orange Athletic 5-0.

FC Duddon had Will Furnedge, Dan Evans and Ben Thorpe as they beat Eastham Ferry 3-2 in a very close game.

Lewis Stephenson and Tom Tudor were the Eastham scorers. The game between Princes Villa and Rossmore ended goalless.

The CWFL Flexi 11s divisions will start, for a third year, mid September.

There will be divisions on Monday nights at Ellesmere Port Sports Village and Blacon High School.

Then on Friday Nights at Vauxhalls, Woodchurch Leisure Centre and Blacon High School.

A couple of places still remain. Games are played on 3G under floodlights and last one hour.
