THE re-opening of a revamped children's garden in Birkenhead was marked with a special party.

Brassey Gardens Children's Centre worked with parents to decide how they could make the space suitable for children to enjoy and develop.

The revamped area features a range of sensory facilities to nurture the imaginations, and encourage learning and development of children aged 0-5.

New features include a dedicated sand and water play area, a 'mud kitchen', bug hotel and an area just for storytime.

The garden was opened by deputy mayor Cllr Tony Smith, who marked the occasion by planting a tree.

Corporate director of children's services, Paul Boyce said: "The refurbishment of the garden area is fantastic.

"Centre staff and those parents involved from the beginning have clearly worked hard to ensure their ideas for the space would bring endless enjoyment for children.

"The garden and all its sensory features will not only bring happy memories to families, it will also contribute positively to the learning, development and health of our youngest residents.

"It was great to see the smiles the garden brought to the faces of the children and parents on the opening day.

"I'm sure it will do the same for all those who visit the centre."
