A FIRE has broken out at a recycling plant in Ellesmere Port.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently on scene at North Road after smoke was spotted coming from two large paper storage buildings in the middle of the recycling site.

The building is close to the Manchester Ship Canal and crews are currently using water pumps to pump water from the canal to help tackle the fire.

A full evacuation of the site has been taken place and there are no injuries that have been reported.

Globe readers have reported seeing smoke from the fire across Wirral.

It is believed around 700 tonnes of recycling paper and plastic is on fire.

Crews are applying water jets in two areas and a diesel tank is being cooled.

The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Drone has also been called to assist at the scene.
