TWO New Brighton care lodges have held a recruitment day in the town after an overwhelming response from Globe readers.

The team from Athena Healthcare Group held a group interview day at the Queens Royal Hotel ahead of the opening date in October.

Two 80 bedroom occupancy nursing and residential care lodges named Lighthouse and Marine View, will offer superior nursing, residential and dementia care for the elderly.

Athena Healthcare Group events ambassador Lesley Malone told the Globe: "The Lighthouse and Marine View lodges will offer a lifestyle choice for older people who would like to make their own choices in life.

"When living in our care lodges, by offering meaningful activities and events, trips out to restaurants and hotels, we will enhance the quality of life, encouraging our residents to stay active.

"All our elders deserve the best things in life - staying active and staying involved in communities is just one part of that, I'm really looking forward spearheading Athena monthly community activity hub."

Before their opening date, staff are keen to link with care homes in the area to help residents take part in activities and have a change of scenery in a project called 'community monthly activity hub'.

It's aim is to bring care homes and the community together in order to help the elderly age 'well' in care homes.

New Brighton ward Cllr Pat Hackett and Cllr Tony Jones popped into the team interview day to show their support for the new care lodges.

Cllr Jones said: "I firmly believe Athena Healthcare Group is a great investment for New Brighton.

"It's great that this will create up to 250 jobs for local people too."

Cluster manager for Athena Healthcare Group Liza Millington added: "Exciting times ahead for everyone at Athena.

"I want to say a big thank you to Vicky and all the staff at the Queens Royal Hotel for their lovely hospitality for our management team and interview applicants."
