THE Wirral and District's Dr Dawson Victory Cup Final took place on Saturday and this year's winners were Tixall 'B' who beat West Kirby Victoria on the Oxton Conservative Club's green.

The Tixall team were given a 30-point start and, as hard as they tried, the West Kirby Club could not quite overcome this deficit and Tixall 'B' won the match by six shots.

The match was, generally, very even with the Tixall team actually having seven winners, their best result being by Mike Halsey who had a 21-13 win.

Two West Kirby players had single figure wins; Frank O'Neill, 21-09, and John Lloyd, 21-05.

In the Federation Veteran's event played in Ashton-in-Makerfield on Friday, Wallasey's Brian Somerville was beaten in the semi-final by the eventual winner Cliff Massey from Liverpool.

The final League games of the season have been played in the Wallasey Association and the winners of the first division were New Brighton Queens Royal who took the title for the sixth successive season.

West Kirby Victoria and New Brighton Quarry Vikings tied on points for second place but the West Kirby team had fewer losses during the season.

The Wallasey Association Federation team plays it's final game of the season when it takes on Barnsley next Sunday, August 19.

The home game will be played on the tricky Thingwall Number 2 green while the away leg will be at Barnsley Bowling Club.

Please note the matches will start at the very unusual time of 11am.
