A WIRRAL MP is calling for more funding for a project which provides packed lunches to youngsters to combat holiday hunger across the borough.

Wirral West MP Margaret Greenwood is appealing to organisations and individuals who can help Bob's Place, a Community Interest Company (CIC), to keep creating lunches for primary school age children across Wirral over the summer holidays.

At the moment, Bob's Place only has enough cash to provide lunch packs in Wirral West for just two more weeks of the summer break.

They are now hoping to secure funding to help them cover the remainder of the holidays until the school year begins.

Moira McAdam, from Bob's Place said: "Holiday hunger is a real issue.

“Reports have shown that children’s attention spans start to decrease in the run up to the summer holidays, in particular because of their concerns over being fed.

“More recently a report has said some children can lose up to half a stone in the holidays because of lack of food.”

Bob's Place will also be needing financial backing to provide lunch for the October half term and Christmas holiday.

Ms Greenwood told the Globe: "It's really important that children get the food they need.

"Sadly, too many children in Wirral are going hungry, especially during the summer holidays. Bob's Place is doing a fantastic job in providing food for children who would otherwise go without.

"The charity is looking for urgent funding to continue to support children in Wirral.

“I would urge any local organisations who may be in a position to assist, or individuals willing to donate, to get in touch with them."
