NESTON twins with cerebral palsy have been named Supporters of the Year at the Grassroots Football Awards.

Will and James Bather have been superfans of Neston Nomads U12 team ever since their older sister Alice began playing for the team.

The 11-year-old pair regularly feature as referees, motivators, supporters and mascots for Neston Nomads and have even been tasked with the half-time team talk.

On Sunday, August 5 Will and James travelled to Wembley Stadium for the 2018 FA & McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards to collect their award.

Part of the national judging panel Sir Geoff Hurst said: "Will and James could not be more deserving of this accolade.

"Their commitment and dedication to grassroots football and especially their sister’s team Neston Nomads U12, is plain to see and they should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved.

"It was a real pleasure to meet them on Sunday and give them my wholehearted congratulations on winning the award in person."

Now in its ninth year, the awards recognise volunteers, coaches, clubs and leagues throughout England who ensure grassroots football in local communities thrive.

Judges hailed the brothers as a credit to single-dad Geoff as they picked up their award from England star Kieran Trippier.

Local McDonald’s Franchisee, Paul Griffiths who is an avid supporter of grassroots football in Neston said: “Will and James’s support of their sister is wonderful to see, and it’s great that we’re able to have this opportunity to honour what they do.

"It’s supporters like them that help motivate others involved in grassroots football and their commitment and dedication despite their conditions is truly inspirational.”
