ANYONE aged 16 and over are being offered the chance to try out a free motorbike introduction course in Birkenhead.

Merseyside Police have teamed up with Get On to offer anyone interested in riding a motorbike the chance to be introduced to a bike in a safe and controlled environment.

Taking place on July 21 at the Emergency Services Training Centre on East Street, Birkenhead - the 30 minute sessions will introduce riders to gears, brakes and slow speed handling.

Professional instructors will also be giving advice about wearing protective clothing and what to look for when choosing a training school.

It is hoped the session will educate young people in how to be safe when using motorbikes or scooters.

Tony Campbell, chief executive of Motorcycle Industry Association, who run Get On, said: "There are many reasons why people should consider riding a motorcycle or scooter.

"Whether you are looking for a new hobby or want to save time and money travelling to work, ‘Get On’ can introduce people to riding a scooter or motorcycle in a safe and structured environment and at the same time offer plenty of great advice on how to get your licence.”

Sessions will start from 9am and finish at 6pm - all protective clothing will be provided but riders are advised to wear long trousers and sturdy shoes.

Matrix Road Policing Motorcycle team's sergeant Dave Yorke told the Globe: "These sessions are a perfect way for young people interested in motorcycles and scooters to get a free, safe and controlled introduction into riding and Merseyside Police is delighted to partner 'Get On' in these events.

"Come down and try for yourself."
