WIRRAL residents are being invited to see where all their recycling waste gets sorted.

An open day will be held at Gillmoss Materials Recovery Facility in Liverpool on July 27 where more than 200,000 tonnes of recyclable material from homes in Wirral, Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and Halton is processed.

Resource management company Veolia, who operate the facility on behalf of Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, use a range of manual, optical and mechanical techniques to turn the region’s waste into a resource.

There will be a lot of activities for children and tips on how you can be more sustainable, as well as having the opportunity the view the facility in action.

Residents will also witness first hand how around 90 conveyor belts carry recyclable material around the facility from the viewing walkway and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Booking is not required for the free event at the Bridgehouse Lane centre and residents of all ages can visit anytime between 10am to 2pm on Friday, July 27.
