THREE decades of life in New Brighton will be on view in an exhibition opening in the seaside town next week.

New Brighton Revisited is the first time images taken in the resort by internationally-renowned photographers Martin Parr, Ken Grant and Tom Wood have been shown together, including never-before-seen images.

On display in the sailing school on Marine Point it opens on Saturday, July 14 at 11am.

Martin, Ken and Tom found themselves during their early lives and careers in New Brighton and each brought their own perspective to the fascinating characteristics and beauty of the resort – its streets, seafront, visitors and residents.

The photographs capture moments in the town's life from the late 1970s to the end of the 1990s as they lived and worked there.

The exhibition features iconic images from Martin Parr's The Last Resort series which serves as a time capsule into the working-class family holiday over three summers in the 1980s, alongside his beautiful, lesser-known black and white shots of the seafront.

A selection from Tom Wood's Looking for Love series, depicting revellers at the now-defunct Chelsea Reach nightclub, will be shown with a number of never-before-seen photographs from his time in New Brighton.

Ken Grant's photographs document the everyday realities of working-class life in the town, showing the ordinary of New Brighton in an extraordinary way.

It will be the first time his images of the resort have been shown together.

The Sailing School, located opposite the Travelodge at Marine Point, has been transformed into an art gallery especially for the exhibition, which runs until Saturday 25 August.

The exhibition will be open Wednesday to Sunday, from 12-7pm and entry is free.

New Brighton Revisited is produced by Northern Narratives as part of Wirral Council’s Imagine Wirral year of culture, creativity and ideas and Liverpool Independents Biennial.

It has been supported through funding by Arts Council England.
