TWO dogs who were discovered after being locked in a shed are looking for a new home.

The pair of Akitas - mum Nikki and son Khali were found to be severely underweight, sick and their hair was filthy and matted from years of neglect.

Now having recovered from their ordeal at Dogs Trust Merseyside, the devoted duo are the picture of health and ready to find a forever home together.

Manager at the rehoming centre Georgina Lowery said: “It doesn’t bear thinking about what these two have been through.

"They have recovered really well and now we just want someone to fall in love with them.

“They are a gorgeous pair and truly are the best of friends.

"Given the terrible ordeal they have suffered we really want to find them a home together.”

The team at the centre say the two are great fun, with eight-year-old Khali keeping his ten-year-old mum young at heart as he is always ready to play.

Both dogs are great on the lead and love an interesting walk.

Although they prefer the company of each other to other dogs, they love to meet new people and adore spending time with their two-legged friends.

Georgina added: “Sometimes when dogs have been through such a traumatic experience they show signs of nervousness around people but not these two - they are incredibly friendly.

“They don’t ask for much; a couple of nice walks every day, a comfy place to sleep and lots of love.

"If someone was to adopt them they would know they were giving them the life they deserve, rather than the terrible life they had to suffer for so many years.

"Nothing would make us happier than seeing them head off to a loving forever home. They have waited too long and we hope the wait is almost over.”

Nikki and Khali are both house-trained and can live with children over 10-years-old and would ideally join a household with owners who have experience of the breed.
