DRIVERS are being urged to avoid The Strand after a gas leak in Liverpool.
Emergency services were called at around 9.23am to India Building on Water Street following reports of a gas leak.
It is believed that an internal pipe has been damaged
Road closures are in place on Water Street, The Strand and James Street in Liverpool City Centre.
Merseytravel have also closed the dock exit of the Birkenhead tunnel as a 'precautionary measure'.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is liaising with Merseyside Police at the scene.
