AN official recruitment open day for two purpose built care lodges in New Brighton has been revealed.

The two new 80 bedroom occupancy nursing and residential care lodges from Athena Healthcare Group are set to open on Alexandra Road, New Brighton later this year.

Both lodges, named Lighthouse and Marine View, will offer superior nursing, residential and dementia care for the elderly while championing the need to help residents 'age well' in care homes.

Now Athena will be holding a recruitment day at the Queens Royal Hotel in New Brighton on Tuesday, July 10 from 10am until 4pm with general manager Liza Millington.

The official opening date of the two homes will be October 3.

Last year the group launched a new initiative to link care homes in the area to help residents take part in activities and have a change of scenery.

The 'community monthly activity hub' involves bringing care homes and the community together in order to help the elderly age 'well' in care homes.

The activities also work to combat loneliness and isolation in the community.

Group events ambassador Lesley Malone said: "Our mature ladies and gentlemen will be able to make their own community lifestyle choices in New Brighton and other surroundings areas.

"Our New Brighton Community Activity Hub will launch at the end of October for other care homes to link up with the Athena lodges to share ideas and contacts, go and dine out to lovely hotels and restaurants for meals and afternoon teas."

Recently some of the residents from lodges in Sefton and West Lancashire enjoyed a sportsman's lunch at the Ramada Plaza hotel and were joined by ex-Everton player Pat Van Den Hauwe and Henry Mooney.

Lesley added: "Athena healthcare group will also be linking up with Henry Mooney at Everton to spearhead the North West Monthly Community Activity Hub throughout Liverpool and over the Wirral.

"Anyone feeling lonely and isolated can also come along to the Community Activity Hub to make new friends and feel less lonely.

"We have saying at Athena healthcare group - 'living life to the fullest' for all our ladies and gentlemen encouraging independence and enhancing quality of life and as a team we all work together enjoying seeing this as we all say it could be your mum, dad, grandmother or grandfather and you want the best care and lifestyle."
