BRAVE Edie Molyneux has received a £250,000 boost from an anonymous donor.

Three-year-old Edie, from Tranmere, was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - a rare and inoperable brain tumour last year.

Since then her family set up The Spider-Ede Appeal and have joined forces with The Bradley Lowery Foundation in an attempt to raise cash so that Edie can continue to receive potentially life-saving intra-arterial chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment in Mexico.

Setting a target of £700,000, countless fundraisers have stepped in to help raise cash to help Edie reach her target.

In April Edie was named as an honorary 41st place at the Randox Health Grand National, a place which was first introduced by Jockey Club Racecourses for five-year-old Bradley Lowery who passed away after battling a rare cancer called neuroblastoma in July 2017.

After hearing about Edie's appeal at Aintree Racecourse, a mystery benefactor has donated £250,000 towards her treatment.

Gemma Lowery co-founder and chief executive of The Bradley Lowery Foundation, told the Globe: "We are very grateful to Aintree Racecourse and the Jockey Club for allowing Edie to be part of the Grand National.

"We were thrilled to get her name out there and thanks to them, there has been an anonymous donation.

"This has taken a lot of stress away from the family and allowed us to breathe a little bit more.

"However crucial funding is still needed and we will continue to work towards our fundraising goal."

Edie's family are currently waiting to hear back from doctors to discuss her latest scan results but based on her clinical improvements she is doing remarkably well and is even sitting up by herself.

Jockey Club Racecourses NW communications manager Grant Rowley said: “We were all inspired by Bradley Lowery and were delighted to create the first ever honorary 41st berth in the Grand National for Bradley last year.

"His legacy lived on this year and we were, again, thrilled to offer Edie Molyneux this year’s 41st place through the Bradley Lowery Foundation to support her and her family and also to continue to raise awareness of DIPG.

"The donation that has been received for Edie and her family is overwhelming and extremely generous.

"It has and will continue to make such a huge difference to Edie and the family and we’re pleased to have been a small part of that.”
