POPULAR Pyramids Shopping Centre coffee shop Muffin Break has been applauded for becoming autism and disability friendly.

The cafe joined a list of other Birkenhead businesses who have been creating an inviting space for those affected by autism, sensory impairments or disabilities.

Changes made to Muffin Break include playing relaxed, quiet music and dimmed lighting.

Manager Roxy James said: "Here at Muffin Break we are very passionate about what we do and want to be a place that people from all walks of life find accessible and welcoming.

“Getting to know our customers and building strong relationships with them is the most important thing for us.

“We have a number of deaf people who come in, so we make sure to remember what they like to order and bring it to their table.

"The aim is for everyone feel happy and at ease as soon as they step through our doors.

“It’s a pleasure to serve our freshly baked food and chat with our wonderful customers and we’ll continue to make Muffin Break an inviting space where all can have a wonderful time with us.”

The new relaxed space is hoped to set a welcoming vibe for customers.

Pyramids Shopping Centre director Derek Millar said: "Muffin Break is a great addition to the shopping centre; the customers love the products and the people who work there.

“We’re very proud to have the likes of Muffin Break - as well as other retailers under our roof - which are 100% committed to delivering excellent customer service to all.

“Visiting busy, public places can be disorienting for those experiencing the world differently.

"But, something as simple as turning down the music and lighting has hugely positive effects.

“The team do an excellent job and I have tried the numerous goods they make fresh every morning and can say that they are delicious. I’m sure Muffin Break will keep up the fantastic work and we’ll look forward to its first birthday later this year.”
