POLICE are hunting for a gang of yobs who launched a 'nasty' attack on three teenagers and burgled a house in Heswall.

At around 7.30pm a gang of around 20 yobs, all believed to be of school age, forced their way into a home in Heythrop Drive on Saturday, June 2.

They then caused damage to the house, stole alcohol and threatened children who were at home at the time of the incident.

A 14-year-old girl was spat in the face and punched before a 17-year-old boy was attacked in the street as the yobs left the home.

Later on that evening at around 10.30pm, the attackers assaulted an 18-year-old man by hitting him in the face with a tree branch close to Tesco on Telegraph Road.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective constable Jon Head said: "This was not simply a case of a group of youths messing around or having a laugh.

"This was a nasty attack on children enjoying a summer’s evening at home.

"This group forced their way into a house and threatened a number of children before causing damage and assaulting a young girl.

"They then continued with their aggressive behaviour assaulting two other teenagers that same evening.

"We believe that although a large group of youths were present the majority of them would be appalled at the behaviour of the minority and I would urge them to come forward to speak to us.

"I would also ask parents to come forward if they believe their children were involved.

"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and Merseyside Police will do everything in its power to find those responsible."

Anyone who has any information should call DC Jon Head on 0151 777 2246 or contact the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
