A 10-year-old fundraising champion has completed a 26 mile bike ride for Alder Hey Children's Hospital in memory of her little sister.

Jessica Weaver, from Little Neston, completed the ride on Sunday, May 27 in just three hours to mark the anniversary of the death of her younger sister Georgie.

Georgie was born with tracheal agenesis, a rare condition which means she was born without a windpipe.

Doctors worked to stabilise Georgie before transferring her to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she was christened in front of 30 family and friends.

However consultants at the hospital said there was nothing that they could do for her.

Heartbreakingly, Georgie passed away on May 31, 2014 when she was just five days old.

Since her death, Jessica has been fundraising for the hospital and has raised more than £13,000.

The young ambassador for Alder Hey Hospital Children's Charity has completed a bike ride each year since in a bid to raise cash for the charity.

During her latest ride Jessica cycled 26 miles from Nets Cafe to Mickle Trafford and back, raising a staggering £1,442 - exceeding her target of £1,000.

Jessica's mum Emma told the Globe: "This year Jessica decided that she wanted to ride 26 miles for Georgie Lou.

“Since she completed her first ride, she has been so determined - it is always her who has ideas for the next challenge.

“This year was her fourth bike ride and she cycled from Nets Café to Mickle Trafford and back.

"Jess smashed the ride in well under three hours.

"We are so proud of her."

Emma added: "Next year it’ll be five years since we lost Georgie so I have a feeling Jessica will do something big to mark this but I don’t know how she can beat 26 miles.

"She blows me away every time with all her fundraising.

“Jessica always wants to smash her target so after the first ride when she raised more than £1,000 we thought it’s going to be a tough act to follow.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone for the continued support – we couldn’t have gone through everything without them.

“The kindness and generosity Jessica and our family has been shown has been truly overwhelming.”
