These are the big improvements coming soon to a Wirral park or countryside near you.

They come after Wirral council announced it would invest £300,000 in “vital upgrades” to parks and public spaces across the borough.

The works range from improved toilets and changing rooms to seawall repairs, and are all set to begin by the end of the year.

Here is the list in full:

  • Repairs and improvement works to the Chapel at Landican cemetery – one of Wirral’s main cemetery and crematorium sites
  • Money spent on “better accessibility” at Wirral Country Park Campsite in Thurstaston. According to the council, it’s expected to take place at the end of the year, and will mean improvements such as new tarmac surfacing, access ramps and all-weather parking
  • Dredging work – clearing the bed by scooping out mud, weeds and rubbish – of Ashton Park Lake
  • Upgraded toilets at Eastham Country Park
  • Works to the pavilions at these Wallasey parks to provide better football facilities:Central Park, Rycroft playing fields, Harrison Park and Belvedere and Wallacre recreation grounds
  • Sea defences built at the local nature reserve at Hilbre Islands

According to the council, funding for the projects will come from its Planned Preventative Maintenance budget.

A spokesman said: “Financing for the six separate schemes was approved by Wirral Council’s cabinet and the works range from improved toilets and football changing facilities to seawall repairs and dredging a park lake.

“The projects will support a range of key council priorities from helping those with disabilities to live independently, supporting Wirral’s tourism economy and ensuring leisure and cultural opportunities are available for everyone.”
