STAFF were threatened with a knife and hammer during a robbery at a Moreton shop.

Police were called to Food World Convenience Store and Post Office on Chapelhill Road at around 6.45pm on Monday to a report of a robbery.

Two men were reported entering the store, both wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

One had a knife and the second a hammer.

Threats were made towards staff and the till was forced open, with cash taken.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The men also stole a handbag, before leaving and getting away in a dark green BMW, believed to have been driven off towards Hoylake Road.

One of the men is described as white, in his 20s or 30s, with a fair hair and a goatee beard.

CCTV, vehicle and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry told the Globe: "This was a cowardly attack on people going about their business in the community.

"The staff were thankfully unhurt but left understandably distressed to be threatened in this way, and they are being supported by our officers.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Chapelhill Road yesterday from 6.30pm to contact us immediately.

"There may be members of the public who were passing in their vehicles and recorded dash-cam footage of men close to the shop, or making off in this vehicle afterwards.

"Any piece of information or footage, however small, may be vital for our investigation and will be acted upon.

"I want to reassure all residents and businesses that Wirral continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit and we will do everything possible to identify the offenders and bring them to justice."
