'LAZY' drivers must stop parking at this main road bus stop before they cause an accident, it’s been claimed.

A Wirral resident has said cars parking at the bus stop on Borough Road in Birkenhead is a 'daily occurrence.'

A spokeswoman for the Wirral Dash Cam Twitter account said: “[It’s] annoyance more than anything, bus stops are meant to be for buses not because people are too lazy to walk.

“Disabled passengers or parents with a pushchair wanting to get on or off a bus have no chance because the bus can’t pull up next to the kerb. They’d have to walk into the road so I think the dangers are apparent.”

She said the bus stop on Borough Road seems to be 'by far the worst' in the Merseyside town.

She added: “It’s a daily occurrence, and that’s not an exaggeration. Drive down that stretch of Borough Road during the day and there’s usually at least one car there.”

There are certain times of day when businesses are permitted to load and unload at the bus stop, although it does have double yellow lines.

The spokeswoman added: “I’d like to see the council concentrate their efforts on making sure bus stops like this one are properly enforced, ensuring they have the appropriate signage and markings and are enforced regularly.

“For instance, the bus stop round the corner on Singleton Avenue can be enforced as a bus stop yet there are never any cars parked in it, yet this one on Borough Road is on a far busier road and can’t be enforced. That to me is a seriously flawed way of thinking on the council’s part.”

A Wirral council spokesman said: “It is a issue that we are well aware of and a location which we give regular attention to.

"Officers have issued a number of Penalty Charge Notices here and will continue to do so whenever vehicles are observed illegally parked there.”
