A MAN has admitted biting a security guard during an assault at a town store.

Michael Bay, 34, pleaded guilty to several assaults, including one at the Tesco store in Wrexham, when he appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court.

Bay from Percy Road, Wallasey committed a string of offences, starting with one at another Tesco store in Frodsham Street in Chester on February 6.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson said Bay had entered the store with the intention of stealing headphones and his unusual behaviour had aroused the suspicions of two security guards.

While trying to restrain Bay, both Michael Kay and John Woodworth were assaulted, with Mr Kay being kicked in his right shin and Mr Woodworth bitten on his right forearm.

Bay had appeared in Chester Magistrates on Saturday, May 12 to face the three charges, one of theft, and two assaults, but was remanded in custody until Thursday, May 17 with the offences committed to Wrexham Magistrates, where he faced those three and two further charges.

The two additional charges relate to an incident at Tesco on Crescent Road, Wrexham on February 23 when Bay assaulted Joshua Thomas, another security guard, who was bitten while trying to apprehend him.

The second charge related to Bay failing to surrender to police after being released on bail for the Wrexham assault.

Justine McVitie, defending said that Bay was a diagnosed schizophrenic who had recently stopped taking his medication and had not appeared before the courts since 2011.

Bay was given a 12 month community order by Magistrates, which includes 15 days of rehabilitation and ordered to pay £100 compensation to each of his victims which made the total financial penalty £520.
