THREE men were arrested at the entrance of the Birkenhead tunnel following an ongoing investigation into burglary offences across Merseyside.

At around 12.55pm on Tuesday, April 24 a taxi was stopped at the entrance of the Queensway Tunnel containing three male passengers.

Two of the passengers were wanted by police.

A 21-year-old man from Fazakerley was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of controlled drugs after suspected cannabis was found.

He was transferred to Cheshire to be interviewed in relation to the suspected burglary offences.

A 19-year-old man from Dovecot was arrested on suspicion of money laundering, possession of drugs and theft after cash, suspected cannabis and number plates found in the taxi.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A 16-year-old boy from Knotty Ash was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to burgle and burglary.

He remains in custody for questioning by detectives.
