VOLUNTEERS at Arrowe Sound have been recognised for their dedication to the station after scooping up two accolades at the National Hospital Radio Awards.

DJs at Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio, Richard Holmes and Glynn Thomas scooped up the awards at the annual ceremony in March.

Richard won 'bronze' in the 'Best Newcomer' category while Glynn Thomas won 'gold' as 'Best Male Presenter'.

The radio station based at Arrowe Park Hospital broadcasts a vast selection of music including country, 50's & 60's, rock, 80's and a children's programme on a Monday evening as well as being on air all day, every day.

Organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, the event was held in Windsor and formed part of a conference weekend celebrating the work of hospital radio volunteers at more than 200 stations across the country.

The Hospital Broadcasting Association is a national charity that supports hospital broadcasting across the UK.

Chairman of Arrowe Sound Mike Shepherd said: “I'm very proud of our team who provide an entertaining service to the patients.

"It is wonderful news that two of our volunteers have been recognised nationally."

Entries for the awards closed in November and the shortlist was announced on New Years day.

Director of broadcast and online licensing at PRS for Music Andy Harrower said: “Congratulations to Glynn Thomas who has been crowned Male Presenter of the Year at the Hospital Radio Awards.

"We were once again delighted to have supported the awards and conference, celebrating the dedication of all involved with hospital radio."
