A GROUP of walkers and a dog were rescued by lifeboat crews after being cut off by incoming tide in West Kirby.

The coastguard were called at around 12.35pm on Thursday, April 19 after reports of a group of three people and a dog who had been cut off by fast incoming tide between Middle Eye and Little Eye.

RNLI West Kirby lifeboat crews were launched and rescued the group who had climbed on to rocks for safety.

The group was taken to safety on Sandy Lane where they were met by coastguard officers.

Thankfully no-one was injured and safety advice was provided.

Operations manager for West Kirby’s RNLI Lifeboat Dave Henshaw said: “The tide can soon surround you particularly in the area by Hilbre, Middle Hilbre and Little Eye.

"Details regarding tide times and heights can be found online and are also located on a noticeboard opposite to the ice-cream kiosk at Dee Lane.

"However, always contact HM Coastguard if you feel concerned for your own or someone else’s safety in that vicinity, or elsewhere on any beach."
