PUPILS and staff at Egremont Primary School in Wallasey have received a silver level 'Rights Respecting School Award'.

In order To achieve the honour, awarded by UNICEF, they had to show how they are global citizens and support children by following the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of Children (UNCRC).

The children learnt about their 'Rights' and have embedded this in their daily school life.

Teachers had to link learning to 'Rights' and used the language of the UNCRC to support interactions and routines.

The school was moderated by an external advisor who looked at examples of children's work and interviewed a range of children and staff.

Marta Weimann, who helped oversee the project, said: "It is great that the children are aware and understand that they have 'Rights' as we know that this will support them to grow up to be respectful, considerate citizens.

"The school is now looking to achieve GOLD award."
