AMERICAN guitar legend Earl Slick visited Hoylake last week for a special evening of entertainment.

Best known for his work with David Bowie and John Lennon, Earl performed tracks and spoke to the audience at The Sidings.

Earl allowed the audience to shout out songs to him on stage before performing some of the 'greatest' riffs in musical history.

During the meet and greet session, Earl was presented with a gold disc originally given to him for his work on Bowie's 'Station To Station' album in 1976 by fan Paul Häggqvist.

The award had gone missing in the 90s but when Paul found it, it was only right he travelled to the venue to deliver it to him in person.

Earl said: “When Paul presented me with the Station to Station gold disc on Thursday night that had gone missing in the 90s I couldn’t believe it.

"To lose something in New York and then for it to turn up years later in Hoylake is remarkable.

"Most incredible of all is the generosity of Paul, I’m really knocked out by this.

"To all you folks that came to 'The Cavern Club' in Liverpool on Thursday afternoon and The Sidings later that evening, it's not the size of the city that counts, it's the people that live there that make the difference.

"Thank you all for such a great reception.

"I will always remember it. See you all soon."

The sell-out event was just one of the events Earl will be playing in the UK, with him set to return later this year.

The Sidings venue manager Kelsey Hodkinson said: "It truly was a wonderful evening having Earl with us here in Hoylake, he was an absolute star and when he was reunited with his gold disc it just topped off a brilliant night for everyone."

Joining Earl onstage as compere for the evening and to conduct the interview was Earl’s UK representative and Hoylake resident Tom Wilcox.
