THESE pictures show three separate disgusting fly-tipping incidents seen around Wirral in just one weekend.

The images, all posted to social media on Sunday, appear to show items such as bin lids, rugs, bags of rubbish and even mattresses left around the borough.

Michael Redgrift posted to Twitter an image of waste that appeared to be damaged by fire, in a lane at top of Holborn Hill in Birkenhead.

He said: “I despise any type of fly-tipping as things like this can happen as we walk our dog around the area and people do the same with children. It’s a hazard through sheer laziness.”

An hour earlier, Twitter user Steve Holland posted a picture of multiple bin bags dumped on Brimstage Lane, near Bebington He said: “I spotted it [on Sunday] evening whilst bike riding.

"I’ve seen a few instances of it along that lane over the years and in some other remote locations nearby.

"It baffles me why people do it but I strongly feel they need to be held to account for it.”

Also on Sunday, a third image of grim fly-tipping emerged on Twitter, this time posted by Andy Sturgeon.

It appeared to show dozens of items including rugs and wood panels dumped in Bebington.

Mr Sturgeon wrote: “@WirralCouncil nice walk today down Lever Causeway between Bebington and Barnston and noticed someone has done a bit of fly-tipping. Not very good at it as they left an envelope with an address. I have the details if you require.”

Cllr Phillip Brightmore, Wirral council’s cabinet member for environment, condemned the fly-tippers, said: “We have a beautiful borough with world-beating parks, gardens and coastline.

"These are maintained by hard-working council staff and volunteers.”

He said an 'irresponsible minority' of people fly-tip, and that those people 'must be put on notice'.

He added: “I make no apology for cracking down on fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling.

"These instances of fly-tipping will be investigated, the waste removed, and the perpetrators held to account.

“We saw just last week an irresponsible business fined £10,000 for committing similar offences.

"Labour simply will not tolerate environmental crime.”

A council spokesman added: “Wirral Council always investigates incidents when they are reported to us and officers use all the investigatory powers at their disposal to gather evidence to try to identify an offender and secure a positive outcome at court.

“Residents should report all incidents using our online form at www.wirral.gov.uk/flytipping.”
