A WOMAN from Birkenhead is taking part in the London Marathon to raise cash for a charity which helped her husband who was diagnosed with blood cancer.

Beverley Dutton, 37, will run the 26.2 mile course in April for a national blood cancer charity Leukaemia Care.

Leukaemia Care helps give support and advice to anyone affected by blood cancer.

They provide support services to patients and their carers including a helpline, support groups, patient and carer conferences and nurse education days.

So far Beverley has raised £809 - making her the second highest fundraiser for the charity and winning grandstand tickets for the starting line.

Wirral Globe:

She told the Globe: “A few years ago, my husband was diagnosed with cancer.

"At the time it was a massive shock to our family how such a young, hardworking, always on the go man could be suffering with such an illness.

"With the massive help of all the doctors and nurses and support from family and friends, in 2015 Chris was extremely lucky to be given the all clear.

"It is for that reason I am running the London Marathon to raise awareness and thank everyone who helped us along the way.

"Leukaemia Care give support and advice to lots of cancer patients.

"I am hoping to raise money so no one has to face this illness alone.

"My training is going great.

"It’s hard work but I am really enjoying it and have met some fantastic people along the way, people who I now see as friends for life."

This will be Beverley's first marathon after completing her first half marathon in March.

Clare Brooks, who works with the Marathon runners at Leukaemia Care said: "Our runners make all the difference to people who need that bit extra support.

"I’ve followed all our runners, including Beverley, from the point of sign up and I can’t wait for Beverley to cross that finishing line."
