PLANS for a “first-of-its-kind” luxury hotel for dogs in the Wirral are set to be approved.

Love Ur Dog Hotel will offer pooches luxury accommodation including penthouses fitted with TVs, radio, mood lighting and luxury furnishings.

Developers said it will be modelled along similar lines to Premier Inn, and include water aerobics, beauty salon treatment, massage therapy and grooming.

The brainchild of Scott Williams, the hotel will be based inside a large, disused unit on Prenton Way, North Cheshire Trading Estate.

Plans for a change of use for the building are recommended for approval by councillors at Wirral’s planning committee on Thursday evening.

Mr Williams, who is a powerboat racer and owner of roofing firm Roofcare, said: “I have had dogs since I was a young kid, and in my job as a racer I am out of the country a lot.

“I always need people looking after my dogs because when I go to kennels across any of the north west, it’s not up to the standards I want. They are just dog kennels and boarding halls – not hotels.”

Dad-of-one Scott, who has two bulldogs – Dexter and Colin – and a springer spaniel called Glen, said he spoke to a lot of friends who were of the same opinion.

Scott, 42, added: “It’s something in high demand so when the building became available, I bought it and decided that was what I wanted to do.”

If approved by planners at Thursday’s meeting, the dog hotel will have 40 boutique indoor bedrooms, ten of which will be penthouse with private gardens.

Ten will be “quiet area” rooms to house elderly, nervous and young guests.

All will include fitted beds, TVs, radios, mood lighting, luxury furnishings and webcams “so their parents can check them when they’re in their rooms and not out having fun”.

There will also be grooming, a beauty salon, massage therapy, a shop, outdoor exercise areas and dog training classes happening on site, as well as emergency housing to support local kennels.

It will be staffed 24 hours a day, and employ six full-time staff as well as two college apprentices.

Scott’s planning statement, previously submitted to Wirral Council, said: “Dog owners are now working long days or longer working weeks and this has produced a major need in the market for care provision for dogs who would otherwise be left alone for extensive periods of the day.

“Love Ur Dog hotel will provide exactly what these dogs and indeed their owners need.”
