Called Sandon Gardens, the 29 new apartments in Heswall are the result of a partnership between developers MBE Construction and housing association Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH).

The development is made up of two and three-bedroom homes, said to be built to “exceptional standards”, offering “affordable, luxury living”, and situated a short walk from the town centre.

They were unveiled by LMH on Friday, March 23, and have replaced the Heswall Bar and Courtyard – formerly the Sandon Arms and The Slak – on Milner Road, which closed in 2014 and was later bulldozed.

They are available now for shared ownership.

LMH Chief Executive Steve Coffey said: “We are immensely proud of this development and to bring affordable luxury living within reach for local families.

“Sandon Gardens is one of several LMH schemes being developed across the Liverpool City Region to meet demand for high-quality affordable housing, and forms part of our wider strategy to build over 350 homes every year until 2021.”

Alison McGovern MP for Wirral South and Cllr George Davies, deputy leader of Wirral council, will officially open the scheme, aimed to offer homebuyers an easier way to get onto the property ladder.

According to LMH, it’s the housing association’s first shared-ownership development in Wirral, and has “proven popular” with first-time buyers, retired people and families, with more than half the homes already reserved.

Shared ownership means buyers purchase a share of the new home – between 25% and 75% – and pay a reduced rent on the remaining part until they are ready to own the property outright.

The homes are said to benefit from “spacious” front and rear gardens, off-street parking, communal bike shelters and landscaped ground. They also have “energy-efficient” boilers and most are equipped with balcony areas or patio doors.

Homes at Sandon Gardens start at £43,750 for a 25% share.
