A list of gifts and hospitality accepted – and declined – by officers managed by Wirral council has been released.

The officers in question work on behalf of the Merseyside Pension Fund, and are required as part of their roles to attend business meetings and events.

As part of these, they may be offered meals or gifts, which they are required to declare, before it makes an entry into a council register.

That register is to be discussed by one of the local authority’s committees next week, with the majority of entries lunches and dinners offered by donor organisations with the value of up to £60 and £70.

But there are also a number of event invitations in the list like a £50 ticket to the Open at Royal Birkdale and a £40 pass to a Henley Regatta client event, both of which were declined.

The figures are due to be noted by Wirral Council’s pensions committee on March 22.

Ahead of the meeting, a Wirral Council spokesman said: “The nature of Merseyside Pension Fund’s work means that officers are regularly required to attend business meetings and events.

“Merseyside Pension Fund’s officers are governed by the council’s policy; any gift or hospitality is only accepted in accordance with policy and all declarations are subject to scrutiny by elected members.”

Below is the full register of gifts and hospitality, along with their value, which have been made subject to review by the council to “ensure transparency”.

Officers are told not to accept such offers except for in “very limited circumstances”.

Unless otherwise stated, the donor organisations were not seeking work.
