A POSTMAN from Birkenhead will walk around 271 miles from Prenton Park to Dover to raise cash for brave three-year-old Edie Molyneux.

Tranmere Rovers season ticket holder Richie Hellon has been a postman for 21 years and enjoys nothing more than going to watch his team at Prenton Park.

But on Sunday, March 25 Richie will embark on a challenge of the life-time and will walk from Prenton Park to Crabble Stadium ahead of Tranmere Rovers' clash with Dover Athletic on Friday, March 30 at 3pm.

Richie hopes to raise £1,000 for Spider-man fan Edie who is currently undergoing treatment in Mexico for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - a rare and inoperable brain tumour.

Edie travelled to Monterrey in January to receive IA chemotherapy and immunotherapy which is not available on the NHS.

In order to have the treatment, Edie's family set up The Spider-Ede Appeal to raise cash for the groundbreaking treatment.

So far £130,532 of the £700,000 target has been raised.

Edie has been responding well to treatment but has been suffering with severe side effects which have left her feeling tired and drowsy.

Recent MRI scans show that there is no change in the tumour's physical appearance and the ventricles - a communicating network inside the brain - look good.

Richie told the Globe: "I work in the same office as Edie's aunty and heard about what she was going through.

"It's heartbreaking to hear what she is going through but great to see the treatment is working positively.

"If I can give something or inspire others to donate I would have achieved my goal.

"I was planning on going to the game anyway so I thought, why don't I walk there."

Wirral Globe:

Richie has raised £262 of his £1,000 target but hopes to surpass this to help Edie and her family.

Walking at a postman pace of four miles per hour, Richie will break down the walk across six days travelling around 14 hours per day and will take the following routes; Tranmere to Stoke, Stoke to Nuneaton, Nuneaton to Milton Keynes, Milton Keynes to London, London to Canterbury and Canterbury to Dover.

For the last mile, Richie will be walking backwards after being promised an extra £125 from Matt Hawse, who is also paying for Richie's hotels along his trek.

Tranmere fans are also encouraging others, who are travelling to the fixture, to join Richie walking backwards on the last mile.

Richie added: "I would like to say a huge thank you to anyone who donates for Edie.

"I just want to get as much money and support for Edie as I can.

"She needs all the support she can get right now."
