WIRRAL'S 'Running Man' has completed four marathons in four days to raise awareness for children who have been diagnosed with a rare inoperable brain tumour.

John Hammond, from Oxton, has embarked on a number of challenges to raise cash for two girls from Wirral who have been diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - a terminal inoperable brain tumour.

Lucy Moroney, 10, from Heswall was was diagnosed with DIPG last year before three-year-old Edie Molyneux also received the same diagnosis a few months later.

Both children have travelled to Mexico with their families in the hope to receive pioneering treatment, not available on the NHS.

However the families have had to raise more than £500,000 to cover the minimum costs of the treatment.

There are also four other children from the UK currently receiving the same treatment in Mexico; Cameron, Zoé, Kaleigh and Luke.

To raise awareness, John decided to complete a marathon in each town or city that every child diagnosed with DIPG in the UK has come from in an attempt to help.

John completed marathon's in Northern Ireland, Southampton, London and East Lothian and has raised £2,520 so far.

He said: "I've met some fantastic people who I think will become friends for life.

"I’ve been amazed by the people I’ve met and how DIPG has affected their lives.

"Lots and lots of ideas going through my head for the future to try and help these families.

"A huge thank you to everyone who helped me put this together in probably just 10 days and of course to every single person who has donated.

"Special thank you and well done to Dave for supporting me yet again with one of my ideas and for smashing two marathons in two days with hardly any training."
