HOYLAKE indie rockers The Coral have spoken out after a ghostly encounter at local pub, The Ship Inn.

Famous for tracks such as In the Morning and Dreaming Of You, the band have just finished recording their latest and are about to go on tour with Manic Street Preachers ahead of a busy summer festival schedule.

Keyboardist Nick Power, bassist Paul Duffy and guitarist Paul Molloy were out having a drink in their local after rehearsals enjoying a conversation about all things paranormal when they were shown a spooky CCTV still of a spirit sitting at a chair in the pub back in January.

What made the encounter even more chilling was that the spirit shared similar characteristics with guitarist Paul.

Nick told the Globe: “Me, Duffy and Molloy were having a quiet drink after rehearsal in The Ship Inn.

“We were talking about the TV show Most Haunted, and Derek Acorah who is one of our favourite local psychic.

“The barmaid then said that she'd caught a ghost on camera in the pub and did we want to see it?

“We were looking at blurry CCTV footage then, at what looked like a genuine spirit.

“There was a sudden coldness in the air, I turned around and Molloy had disappeared and had manifested on the screen in place of the ghost, and then in the chair - the same chair and place in the pub the ghost was sitting on in the CCTV footage.

“It was lucky for him, because it was his round."

Recalling what happened, Paul said: “All I can remember is that my head started spinning and I started slipping into this strange vortex.

“Next time that I gained consciousness, I was outside the pub because the barmaid had kicked me out.”

The band put the images on social media to ask fans for their opinion on the ghostly apparition – even enlisting the help of Merseyside psychic Derek Acorah.
