VISITORS at the Pyramids Shopping Centre helped turn a giant colouring wall into a kaleidoscopic artwork.

Families on a day out at the centre were greeted by 'The Pentagon' a 5m by 2m five-sided installation which stood in the centre.

Created by artist Scott Walker, the 3D canvas depicting shopping centre items arrived at the Pyramids on Thursday, February 22 and the following day, the paint pens came out again for a carotoon character-themed design.

Centre director Derek Millar said: "The colouring wall activity had such widespread appeal and was a big hit with our shoppers.

“We saw everyone from tiny tots right through to some of the eldest members of the community contributing.

!It was fantastic seeing people of all generations and backgrounds having fun and engaging with each other.”

Artist Scott was also at the centre working alongside those who stopped to get creative.

He said: “Colouring in is such a joyous thing to do and when placing a usually solitary activity in a busy environment - like the shopping centre - it worked wonders for encouraging people to interact with the art, and each other.

“These events are always great fun for meeting people and chatting while working towards a common goal of making the designs look spectacular and Birkenhead did a stellar job in making my art look just that.

"Thank you to everyone who took part.”

Derek added: “We have been really impressed with how hard our shoppers worked on the pieces.

"Well done to everyone involved and our thanks go to Scott for bringing this brilliant activity to the centre.”
