HIDDEN among trees and leaves a number of families have been stumbling on painted pebbles as part of a project to spread a little happiness across Wirral.

A local Facebook group is encouraging people to paint a rock, write 'Wirral Rocks' on the back and then hide it in the hope of making a stranger smile when they find it.

People are also asked to post pictures of any of the rocks if they find them and to share the group with friends that may like to join in.

This half term families are encouraged to go out and find these pebbles or even create some of their own.

How does it work?

Find a rock/pebble, paint it and then hide it for someone to find.

If you’re lucky enough to find one, you could either keep it or rehide it for someone else to find.

Members are encouraged to post pictures of the pebbles they have painted or found on Facebook to inspire others.

What should I use?

Acrylic or water based hobby paints are recommended but permanent pens works too.

When it's dry, seal it with varnish or PVA glue or even nail varnish to stop the colours running.

Having trouble finding rocks?

They can also be bought from the pound shop, garden centres and hobby shops.
Remember to write on the back, if there is room, 'Keep or rehide me, Wirral Rocks'.

Where should I hide it?

That’s up to you but bascially anywhere where it is safe to do so whether that's on a park bench, during a day trip, at the bus stop, somewhere in the office or on your own garden wall.

Can I get involved this week?

Yes! A rock painting and hiding event takes place at Wirral Country Park on Friday, February 23.

Head to the Wirral Country Park Visitor Centre on Station Road, Thurstaston between 10am and 2pm.

Rocks and paint will be provided but there's a suggested donation of £2 to cover costs.
