T'PAU has been announced as the headliner for Grand National Thursday at Aintree Racecourse.

Taking to the stage for the first day of the Randox Health Grand National Festival on Thursday, April 12, T'Pau will perform at the Aintree Pavilion from 5.30pm.

Racegoers will be treated to chart topping hits including ‘China in Your Hand’, ‘Heart and Soul’ and ‘Valentine’.

After crashing into the music industry in 1987, T'Pau saw success with hit 'Heart and Soul' taken from their debut album Bridge of Spies.

Their most successful single ‘China In Your Hand’ stayed at number one for five weeks and was the longest serving number one of the year.

Frontwoman Carol Decker said: “The Grand National Festival is one of the biggest sporting events of the year and I can’t wait to bring my music to the fantastic people of my birthplace, Liverpool – it’s going to be a superb day."

The newly renamed Grand National Thursday - A Day for Champions will celebrate the many successes of sport across Merseyside at Aintree Racecourse.

With the launch of a brand new Champions Lounge, some of the very best Merseyside sports stars will be part of the new opening ceremony.

During the day, the lounge will host Q&A sessions with sporting celebs including Olympic gold medalist's Sam Quek and Beth Tweddle, Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, Everton legend Graeme Sharp and Rugby League champ Jon Wilkin.

The new Champions Lounge will be located next to Aintree’s Parade Ring and will be chaired by BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker.

Racegoers will also receive a buffet ‘feast for champions’ in the Champions Lounge, breakfast canapes, Earl of Derby Grandstand seats, traditional Afternoon Tea, musical entertainment, complimentary racecard and free car parking.

Managing director of Aintree Racecourse John Baker said: “We’re thrilled to welcome T’Pau to Aintree on Grand National Thursday.

"With so many classic hits such as ‘China In Your Hand’ and ‘Heart and Soul’ it promises to be a fantastic performance.

"Liverpool has such a great musical heritage so I’m sure our racegoers are going to enjoy T’Pau on the opening day of the Randox Health Grand National Festival.

"In addition to T’Pau, Grand National Thursday promises to be an excellent day with four grade one races, one of only three days in the racing calendar, and our new celebration of Merseyside Sport - we just can’t wait until April."
