GLOBE readers are being encouraged to 'go green' for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity's latest fundraising campaign.

Let's Go Green takes place from next Saturday, February 3 until Sunday, February 11.

It is part of an appeal to raise £15 million towards the building of a new specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool city centre and improvements to the Wirral site, transforming cancer care.

... And there are lots of ways you can get involved.

Schools might want to hold a green day where pupils pay £1 to dress in green for the day, or bake green cakes.

Businesses can do the same, or workers could tip green gunge on their boss – for the price of a generous donation of course.

Landmark buildings across Wirral will be bathed in green light, including Wallasey and Birkenhead Town Halls, Seacombe Ferry Terminal, the Floral Pavilion and Bidston and Leasowe Lighthouses.

This Friday, volunteers from the charity will be in Heswall and Birkenhead doing street bucket collections allowing people to make a donation if they can.

Last year's inaugural Go Green week was a huge success.

Wirral’s Olympic hockey hero Sam Quek supported the appeal, while schools and workplaces held green days where they had fun while raising funds for a vital charity.

The public can also tweet their support using the hash tag #letsgogreen and posting pictures of themselves wearing green clothes or wigs, or even enjoying a spot of face painting.

You can then also text CURE to 70111 to make a donation of £4.

Katrina Bury, head of the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: "Last year we were thrilled by the response to the first Let’s Go Green week.

"This year will be even bigger and better.

"We are delighted to see so many businesses and local authorities showing their support for The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, including those in Wirral.

"Not only are a number of civic buildings and structures going green, the support extends to inviting our volunteers to collect for this brilliant cause.

"One in two of us will develop cancer over our lifetime so this new hospital is vitally important for the people of Wirral, Cheshire, Merseyside and the surrounding areas.

"We hope everyone will get behind us by going green and help build a cancer hospital that we can all be proud of."
