A WIRRAL RSPCA inspector is hoping to raise £2,000 for the animal charity by taking part in the London Marathon.

Lisa Lupson, 38, from Irby, has been training for the marathon since October and took part in her first half marathon two weeks ago.

Taking place on April 22, the London Marathon is set over a flat course around the River Thames and begins at three separate points around Blackheath and finishes in The Mall alongside St James’ Park.

The mum-of-two has so far raised £503.20 of her £2,000 target for the RSPCA in an attempt to help even more animals after gaining her charity place.

Lisa told the Globe: “Ever since I was a young girl I have loved animals.

“Since 2006 I have been incredibly lucky, honoured and privileged to have worked for the RSPCA.

“Working on the front line as an inspector is incredibly tough, challenging, insightful and rewarding.

“I experience an array of emotions doing my job and no day is ever the same.

“I want to raise awareness and cash for the great work that the RSPCA does.

“A lot of people think we get government funding but it’s not the case – we’re always in need of vital donations to keep going.

“So far training has been going okay. I’ve had no injuries and it’s 13 weeks to go until the big run so I’m feeling very positive.

“Running has definitely become addictive for me.

“I’m a seasonal runner and I’m currently doing a rigorous training programme, really pushing myself further for this marathon.

“I completed my first half marathon two weeks ago and it’s a real buzz. Getting that medal at the end and knowing you’ve supported a worthwhile cause it’s worth it.

“I’ll just be running by myself, as far as I’m aware, I’m the only employee running but there’ll be a lot of runners for the charity on the day.

“My workmates have been very supportive, sharing posts and donating to the justgiving page.

“I’m going to be hosting some events in the coming weeks to help get £2,000, it’s a lot of pressure but I’m very passionate about the RSPCA – it’s very difficult to switch off from work.

“After the marathon I’ll continue running and anything I can do for the RSPCA will be amazing.

“I want to raise awareness of the fantastic job my colleagues do on a daily basis and raise money for a charity that is clearly close to my heart

“What better way to do this than setting myself possibly the biggest challenge ever running 26 miles in the London Marathon – I must be crazy!

“To anyone who donates, I’d love to say a massive thank you for the support you have given me and the charity. Animals need your help and I’m thankful to anyone who donates.”
