FOR some months now, the touchscreen book of remembrance at Landican has been out of action.

This is the second extended period of downtime within the last two years.

I have spoken to staff at the Landican office and was told that although the fault has been repaired by an external contractor, there is still a need to reconfigure the software in order for it to fit the screen.

I was also told that the council's in-house IT services team won't carry out this work; I sought clarification on this and was told that it was indeed a matter of them electing not to do it rather than being unable to do it.

If this is so, I'm most disappointed that council officers no longer appear to believe that they are there to provide a service to the people of Wirral.

This problem together with the fact that there is paint peeling off the walls in the room and also the plaque over where the screen is usually located has fallen off the wall leaving an ugly patch of glue for all to see makes a visit to remember loved ones a not very nice experience.

Surely we should be able to expect a better level of service that we are being provided with.
