BUDGET holidaymakers may have to rethink their packing after new rules came into force at Ryanair from today, Monday.

Only priority boarding passengers will now be able to take two cabin bags on for free.

That means anyone who needs more than one bag with them on the plane will have to pay £5 for the privilege.

Everyone will be allowed one small bag but will have to put their other bag in hold at the boarding gate.

But it will be free of charge.

What happens if I don't pay the £5 priority charge?

If you have not purchased Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, you are only permitted to bring one small bag on board.

Your second 10kg bag will be tagged at the gate and put into the hold free of charge.

Your small bag (e.g. handbag, laptop etc.) must not exceed 35x20x20cm and should easily fit under the seat in front of you.

Your second 10kg bag must be 55x40x20cm in size and must fit into the sizers at the gate before being tagged and put into the hold free of charge.

Has the allowance for checked-in bags changed?

Yes.  Fees have been reduced from £35 to £25 per check-in bag and there is also a bigger check-in bag allowances (up from 15kg to 20kg).

Why the change?

Ryanair says they have made the move to avoid boarding delays and/or baggage offloads as well as speeding up the boarding of flights.
