WIRRAL charity Mind on Music will host an afternoon celebration event to help tackle loneliness in January.

Recognising that the month can be particularly lonely for over 55s following the festive period, charity boss and jazz singer Bexi Owen from Upton hopes she can change this.

The dementia friendly event at Carrbridge Community Centre in Woodchurch will take place on January 8 from 1pm to 3pm.

There will be live music, afternoon tea type refreshments and information of local services to encourage people to live well in 2018.

Following the event, a series of regular social events and a well-being group will be set up so that people will be able to find company, support and information.

Mind on Music hopes to promote health and wellbeing through music.

Bexi began the charity after running a dementia project called Forget Me Never for two years.

The charity uses classic songs for those living with dementia in order to engage them socially and stimulate memories.

They also run singing for mindfulness workshops to help with anxiety and depression.

Bexi said: "After the business of Christmas, the quietness of January can often be a shock.

"I hope by running this event and future groups, people will have a jolly afternoon to bring them together with others and enjoy some live music and a good cup of tea which always helps."

The event is free with a suggested donation of £1, booking is essential to reserve a place.
