Three-year-old Edie accepted for inoperable brain tumour treatment in Mexico - but more funding needed

Edie Molyneux was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) after being referred to Alder Hey Hospital.

Her family set up The Spider-Ede Appeal to help raise cash for immunotherapy treatment in Mexico.

On December 19, the family found out that, after receiving all of Edie’s medical information, the Mexico clinic have accepted Edie onto their treatment programme.

She will now travel to the clinic on January 2 but is still in need of £255,000 to ensure she can receive a full course of treatment.

Her mum, Ashleigh said: “We had a letter from the clinic confirming our acceptance onto their DIPG treatment program.

“They’ve had all of Edie’s medical information, scans, videos of her and have agreed to proceed with treating her brain tumour.

“We will therefore be leaving for Mexico ready for when they open up after Christmas and will be there for most if not all of January.

“This is a huge step forward for us however this means now more than ever that we need your help to raise vital funds to allow us to keep her on this treatment path.

“These people are literally super heroes, changing people’s fate from a death sentence to life prospects.

"Making DIPG a previously incurable fatal disease a thing of the past."

So far, the appeal has raised more than £45,000 to get Edie to Mexico.

Ashleigh added: "Our current goal is to raise approximately £300,000 to cover the cost of flights and treatment for our Edie, which include specialised chemotherapy and immunotherapy but currently this is just a ballpark figure, she may need more or less than the standard amount of treatments.

"However we would love to exceed this figure to enable us to help other children and families in the future."
