THE best performing primary schools in Wirral have been revealed after a recent publication shows this year’s key stage two SATs results.

Taken by pupils in year 6 aged 10 onwards, the tests monitor a child’s reading, writing and maths abilities.

League tables published by the Department of Education rank schools by the percentage of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.

This year Thornton Hough Primary School topped the table, closely followed by Well Lane Primary School and West Kirby St Bridget's CofE Primary School.

The top 10 best performing Primary Schools in Wirral: 

1. Thornton Hough Primary School: 95 per cent met expected standard

2. Well Lane Primary School: 91 per cent met expected standard

3. West Kirby St Bridget's CofE Primary School: 88 per cent met expected standard

4. Our Lady and St Edward’s Catholic Primary School: 85 per cent met expected standard

5. Our Lady of Pity Catholic Primary School: 84 per cent met expected standard

6. Mount Primary School: 82 per cent met expected standard

7. Thingwall Primary School: 82 per cent met expected standard

8. Poulton Lancelyn Primary School: 79 per cent met expected standard

9. Brookdale Primary School: 77 per cent met expected standard

10. Liscard Primary School: 77 per cent met expected standard

The five lowest performing schools in the borough were St Werburgh's Catholic Primary School (23 per cent met expected standard), Hillside Primary School (25 per cent met expected standard), St Joseph's Catholic Primary School (27 per cent met expected standard), Sandbrook Primary School (28 per cent met expected standard) and Fender Primary School (30 per cent met expected standard).
