LHK Productions always receive a great reception at the Epstein Theatre. Producer Lee Kelly’s pantos at Christmas and at Easter enjoy a loyal following.

Long may their seasonal successes continue.

Peter Pan, written and directed by the ever- excellent Michael Chapman, has a youthful feel to it which is ideal for a show about a boy who never grew up.

The script is peppered with references to Ant and Dec and Wayne Rooney and there’s an appearance from a scary crocodile who is a hit in the ‘look behind’ you scenes.

Michael also plays Nurse Betty injecting innuendo in the best possible taste.

This is his 8th penned panto and 17th show for LHK.

He is one of the great panto stars and his end of show sing-a-long with the volunteer children consistently shines with acute comic timing.

Author J.M. Barrie died 80 years ago in 1937 yet his timeless tale of Neverland remains a staple favourite with children and adults alike at Christmas.

This show has all the right ingredients: a lovely set and costumes, sparkling dance numbers and lively songs courtesy of the band plus plenty of high-wire ariel scenes.

The cast deserve bonus air miles for their flying effects.

Playing the part of PP is talented Lewis Pryor in his first lead role.

I wish he had been given a bit more to do as he is a versatile performer and has real gift for connecting with kids.

Tinkerbell is a feisty fairy courtesy of Radio City’s Claire Simmo.

She reminds me of a young Crissy Rock while Georgia Austin’s Tiger Lily provides some wonderfully delivered Scousisms.

Joanne Harper’s Wendy ably looks after the Lost Boys who provide some charming cameos.

Wendy’s posh roots we are told stem from her Heswall parents. There’s no 12 Days of Christmas this year instead a saucy dance routine involving sauce pans.

A major highlight is a raucous, very funny version of Men in Tights.

Stars of the two and half hour - including interval - production are Dane Bowers of Another Level fame who is a splendid Captain Hook.

He is a baddie in the Terry Thomas mould of likeable villains.

Chris Barton’s Smee seems to love every minute on stage and that always transmits well to any audience.

Peter Pan is a slick panto with a fine crew and a very big heart.

PAN-tastic four stars!
