PEOPLE are being asked to join in the festive fun and to hang their baubles on Liscard's brand new Christmas tree.

It is hoped the 20ft tree will add to Liscard's festive fever as it joins the Christmas lights on Liscard Way, recently switched on by Britain's Got Talent finalists Mersey Girls.

Run as a joint project between Love Liscard (Wirral Chamber of Commerce) and the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, members of the public are being offered the chance to help decorate the tree by bringing a bauble and a £1 donation which will go towards funding the project in 2018.

Anyone participating in this will be able to dedicate the bauble and the name will be posted on the Christmas Tree’s Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/liscardxmastree/

As well as the tree, visitors to the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre can also visit Santa’s Grotto which is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm until Christmas day.

People are also being encouraged to donate one wrapped present to a child in need.

Each present must be labelled with what age and gender the present would be best suited to and they will then be given to the Wirral Kids Charity.

Supported by Wirral Radio the charity raises cash for children in the borough who are living in crisis.

All the gifts donated will be placed at the foot of the tree and then handed over at a special ceremony before Christmas.

Chief executive of Wirral Chamber Paula Basnett said: “Liscard is a busy and very important area for our retail sector, therefore, to encourage more people to visit the town and experience the great shops and places to eat, we felt that Liscard deserved a Christmas tree to be proud of, and we wanted to make sure that it had one.

“Christmas is a very special time of the year for families and, particularly for the children, so by having members of the community to help in decorating the tree, they can make it their very own.

"We hope you will all join in, so on behalf of Love Liscard we wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.”
